Amsterdam, so close yet so far – the city that always leaves me with the feeling of urgency to come back, yet it somehow takes a good couple of years to do so – shame! I have been to Amsterdam many times (perks of once being a student in the Netherlands) but never for a full-blown weekend trip with my boyfriend – this was going to be good ‘un!

With a list as long as my arm of places to eat and peeps to meet – we were oh-so-excited to be back in Amsterdam! On our first evening, we hit up Happyhappyjoyjoy – an Asian street food restaurant that is influenced by classic Asian dishes. They cater to indecisive folks (like we were feeling that night) who feel like having Japanese but some Sichuanese on the side and some Indonesian on top – sounds like dream to my ears! Everything comes a la tapas portions – you can go all out without feeling bad for ordering half of the menu, not at all. Plus, they have different types of ramune – I went for strawberry and almost felt like being in Japan again! The interior is definitely a conversation starter – I totally got inspired by all these retro-looking Asian posters and I’m already on a mini home-decor project! If you ever stop by, make sure to try the crispy chicken bao and Sechuan shredded beef – you can thank me later!

Following that, for some drinks and cheeky snacks – bitterballen – we hit up the Foodhallen that is the very in-trend food market market. Spotted some real cool food stalls sadly the tummy was full capacity from Happyhappyjoyjoy noms! If you are on the market (no pun intended) for some little bit of this little bit of that food adventure then Foodhallen might be the address you’re looking for!

On Saturday, we wanted to kick off our first actual day in Amsterdam with a breakfast of champs! We headed down to The Breakfast Club (they have three different locations) to treat ourselves some mean breakfast! And oh boy, did we treat ourselves to some breakfast! We ordered literally three different dishes – two city breakfasts; Mexico City and New York (how can I no to fluffy pancakes) and Philly Cheese Steak! The food was top notch, five stars, and got a definite “yaaaaaas” from me! Beside the food, I like what they did with the interior as well, very spacious yet very Instagrammable – they know how to speak to the hearts of the millennials! Plus, they serve breakfast all day, so what’s not to love about this place!

Shaking off from that very intense food coma, onto the next highlight of the trip, well… THE HIGHLIGHT of this trip – we rented a boat with our friends to cruise around Amsterdam! I mean, I did one those touristy boat tours BUT this was so boujee! We got some food, snacks (not that we needed but hey) and some cocktails on board! Just cruisin’ and having good ol’ fun! Luckily the weather was on our side for the most part – though the last 15 minute we had a proper scare with the dark clouds approaching! When you’re on a boat with like minded people – being extra with poses on a boat – you casually throw a photoshoot, again boujee! People who rented the boat before us left their balloon behind, so we got this kinda sad looking heart balloon to play around as well. Ah, it was the most amazing time, so now I totally wanna be on a boat in Amsterdam again! And if you’re visiting the city on a good day with group of friends, definitely consider getting a boat – it’s the best way to see the beauty of Amsterdam!

After that 3 hour boat ride, we were starviiiiing! We discovered this Argentinean steakhouse – Salmuera, all thanks to our friends… great meat and even great-er (sorry for butchering English – ha! pun!) wines! I was first put off by the Argentinean steakhouse and Amsterdam combination (traumatised by the look of those tourist trap restaurants around De 9 Straatjes, but I was dead wrong – this place is worthy of your time if you feel like some turf and turf!

On Sundays we do botanical! Really you can too, Bar Botanique is a hidden gem in Amsterdam (hidden ‘cos it’s a lil’ outside of all the hustlin and bustlin) oozes the most perfect vibes – all the way botanical with a generous touch of mid-century/art-deco interior! The food menu is not the most amazing but the cocktails sure looked good! If you’re into your greenery/glam interior than this place is the place to chill out with some drinks while putting your best Instagram eye into work!

Ain’t no travel post is complete without a coffee corner gem around here! We came across Bocca Coffee Roasters – a refreshingly spacious coffee heaven by accident! Knowing me, always up for a strong cup of coffee, we went into discover something equally better – their brownies! OMG! More on that in a bit! This is the place you come and stay… to work or study, so calm and easy-on-the-eye, I was obsessed with the minimal-pastel interiors! The coffee was right up my street but you should definitely treat yourself to some baked good, too! We had originally one brownie to share, then got some more – that good!

Lastly, ain’t no trip is over with a souvenir to remember the good times! Wildernis is the best place for crazy plant ladies *cough cough*! The place is full of interesting plants, beautiful pots and some gardening accessories – my kind of heaven! I left Amsterdam with the cutest plant + pot – picked up this weird lil’ fella, a Chinese money plant or Pannekoekenplant in Dutch.

All fed, tired, but extremely happy – we left Amsterdam nothing but with great memories! Already thinking about our next trip, I can’t wait to be back on a boat again lol.

This time of the year is packed with amazing travels, so naturally I’m very excited, very very excited! First up Istanbul and some island-vacaying, I cannot wait! Have you ever been to Amsterdam? Tell me about your favourite thing about it!
